Rohit Sharma Took A Subtle Dig At Chennai Super Kings

Rohit Sharma Took A Subtle Dig At Chennai Super Kings: Gujarat Titans opener Shubman Gill delivered a stellar performance with the bat when it mattered the most. He registered his third century of the Indian Premier League 2023 in the Qualifier 2 match against Mumbai Indians.

He played a record-breaking 129 off just 60 balls and helped his team post a total of 233 for three on the board, which was also their highest-ever total. It won’t be wrong to say that it was a one-man show on Friday.

After being asked to bat first, Gill walked out to open the innings with Wriddhiman Saha and what followed was a carnage of a knock from his bat.

Gill was eventually dismissed by Tim David after scoring a whopping 129 runs off 60 balls. His stellar knock was laced with 10 sixes and 6 fours. With this knock, Gill also became the second Indian batter to score 800 or more runs in a single season after Kohli’s sensational tally of 973 runs in 2016. The century also helped Gill to consolidate his position at the top of the Orange Cap list.

Rohit Sharma Hailed Shubman Gill

Meanwhile, after the match, MI captain Rohit Sharma hailed Shubman Gill for his stellar performance. Speaking to the broadcasters at the post-match press conference, Rohit showered praise on Gill for the way he batted through the innings.
Rohit also took a subtle dig at Chennai Super Kings, with whom Shubman Gill starter Gujarat Titans will lock their horns in the final match of IPL 2023, by wishing that Gill continues the same form in the marquee event as well. He said:

It was a great total, Shubman batted really well. Got to give credit to Shubman, he is in great form and I hope he continues that (smiles). They got 25 extra, with the batting we had we were quite positive when we went in. Couldn’t stitch enough partnerships. Green and Surya batted well but we lost our way.”

He added: “We spoke about giving it a good crack, we lost a couple of wickets in the powerplay and did not get the momentum when chasing a target like that. We wanted one batter just like how Shubman batted till the end, and you never know – one side is shorter and the wicket was good, anything can happen, credit where it is due, Gujarat played well.”

Shubman Gill on his knock

Later, after the first innings, when asked about the runs he scored and GT’s total of 233/3, Gill said: “Got a good total, hopefully we will defend this. A lot, sweat went into my eyes and I was not able to open them. We have played our best cricket when we have lost and this is one of those days. Definitely, it plays a part, you have to know which side to target, if it’s bigger boundaries and they bowl in good areas, look for doubles, smaller boundaries look to take it on. The new ball held up a bit, there was not much grass on that wicket, the ball was coming on nicely and with the outfield wet it stopped swinging after 2 overs.”
