Even as India continued to toil hard in the field in the morning session of Day 2 of the WTC Final 2023 at The Oval against Australia, India captain Rohit Sharma had his spirits up as he had a fun, laughable joke with the umpires.
When suggesting that he wanted to take a review for batsman Alex Carey off Mohammed Shami’s bowling at the stroke of the first hour drinks break, Rohit Sharma did a half DRS ‘T’ signal which puzzled the umpires initially.
This incident was so bizarre and unusual that fans said Rohit even trolled the DRS, leaving the on-field umpires and the commentators confused.
Mohammed Shami came around the wicket to left-hander Alex Carey and hit him on the pads twice in two balls. While India decided to not review the first shout, they pondered hard over the second appeal which was much closer and tighter.
Rohit Sharma started to signal the ‘T’ sign for the DRS but aborted halfway there and instead left his hands hanging and didn’t complete the gesture. This left the on-field umpires confused as to whether Rohit Sharma wants the DRS or not. The commentators believed that the Indian skipper had signaled for DRS, but moments later only realized that he didn’t.
Rohit Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja had a big laugh about this with Jadeja also imitating Rohit’s half signal for DRS.
