Jasprit Bumrah’s India Comeback Date Is Now Confirmed As Per Reports

A good piece of news for Indian fans is that Jasprit Bumrah is steadily pacing toward his big comeback to international cricket. And, according to the reports coming in, it could happen well before the Asia Cup 2023!

As India warm their preparations for the Asia Cup, and in the big picture for the World Cup 2023, they are eager to see their star fast bowler return.

Earlier it was learned that Jasprit Bumrah might miss the Asia Cup as he could be given extended time to be completely fit for the World Cup. Now, however, it has been reported that Bumrah could make his comeback in the Ireland series which will happen before the Asia Cup.

After undergoing back surgery in New Zealand in March, Jasprit Bumrah is currently rehabbing at the NCA in Bangalore, and ESPNcricinfo recently reported that he has “started light bowling workloads, which will gradually increase”.

Then came a report in News18, which suggested that Jasprit Bumrah is likely to make his comeback on the Ireland tour in August, when India would send a second-string side to Ireland for 3 T20Is. That T20I series against minnows Ireland would provide Bumrah a good platform to make his comeback and get off some rustiness and test his fitness in the shortest format before participating in the Asia Cup, which will start on August 31.

“Jasprit Bumrah is looking very good for the Ireland series in August this year. It will be a big boost to the Indian cricket team and will also allow Bumrah time in the middle after the long injury lay-off. If everything stays on course, a Bumrah at peak fitness is likely to take field,” an official told News18.

The main focus for the BCCI and the NCA currently is to not rush Bumrah back and take a chance of reopening his injury as it happened last year.

Last year, Bumrah was rushed back to play a couple of T20Is against Australia in September, and that proved disastrous as he aggravated his injury and missed the T20 World Cup and all cricket since then.

India’s main aim now this year is the World Cup 2023, which they will host in October-November.
