Barmy Army Gives A Brutal Reminder To Steve Smith: Test cricket between England and Australia is always an entertaining affair. The first Test match of the ongoing Ashes 2023 is living up to its hype as both the teams are giving their best to take the must-important 1-0 lead in the ongoing 5-match Test series.

Barmy Army Trolled Steve Smith

Amidst the game, fans have been leaving no stone unturned to make life more difficult for the visitors. The Edgbaston crowd used various references to the 2018 Sandpapergate scandal to mock the Australian players, especially David Warner and Steve Smith, who was handed a year-long ban for their involvement in the infamous controversy.

On Day 4 of the ongoing first Test match, the notorious Barmy Army gave a brutal reminder of the infamous Sandpaper Gate incident that rocked Aussie cricket in 2018 during the tour of South Africa. It has been five years since the incident and even after serving his punishment and accepting the mistakes made, Smith is still taunted for the same.

On Tuesday, Barmy Army was heard teasing Smith by singing “Steve we saw you cry on the telly”, reminding him of the first press conference he held after the infamous incident, where he had broken down into tears in front of the reporters.

Well, the loud chants from the crowd at the Edgbaston did have an effect on Smith as he managed to score only 16 runs before nicking Broad’s fine delivery, a dismissal which handed England a big edge in the Test match.

Later, in the day, the crowd also took a dig at Warner by calling him a ‘cheat’ but the Australian opener didn’t hold back and gave a befitting reply to the fan.

Best one yet 😄
