Former Australia wicketkeeper Brad Haddin took a dig at the England Test team coach for his comments following Jonny Bairstow’s controversial dismissal. Haddin didn’t mince words while speaking against McCullum’s comments.

Brendon McCullum Made A Bold Statement

Meanwhile, after the loss, England’s head coach Brendon McCullum made a bold statement, adding more to the drama, by saying that he can’t imagine sharing a beer anytime soon with the Australian players, the tradition that is being followed for a long time. He also said that the relations between the two sides might not be the same after this incident. He said:

“I can’t imagine we’ll be having a beer any time soon. From our point of view, we’ve got three Test matches to try and land some blows and try and win the Ashes and that’s where our focus will be,” the England red-ball coach said on Sunday.

Former Australian keeper Brad Haddin took a dig at him. Speaking on the Willow Talk Podcast, Haddin said Bairstow had a brain-fade and was not concentrating. He said:

“The coach is coming and saying that they won’t have beers with the Aussies. Mate, they’re 2-0 up. They will be enjoying their own company. They don’t need to have beer with anyone else,” Haddin said on the Willow Talk Podcast.

“Sounds like a bit of sour grapes from England. They’re throwing a lot of stuff at the Australians on and off the field in the media and Australia have just trusted their game style.:

Further, Haddin went on to defend Alex Carey. He said that Mitchell Starc was in control of the catch that was disallowed upon further review by the third umpire. He said:

“Starc was in control of the ball but wasn’t in control of his movements when he completed the catch. So if you’re going to play the letter of the law for that one, England, and be happy, this one from Bairstow was just a concentration lapse that Carey was smart enough to jump on,”

The controversial run-out:

The game-changing moment took place in the 52nd over of England’s innings as Bairstow and Ben Stokes sought to rebuild after the dismissal of Ben Duckett. Jonny Bairstow assumed that the ball was dead, and started to walk outside the crease. However, displaying remarkable awareness, keeper Carey seized the opportunity and threw the ball directly at the striker’s end, catching Jonny Bairstow well short of his ground.

The Australian cricket team has taken a lead of 2-0 in the ongoing Ashes 2023.
