Before the start of play between India and New Zealand in the 3rd T20I, at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad, the BCCI and Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar felicitated Shafali Verma and other members of the Women’s U-19 T20 World Cup-winning squad on Wednesday.

On Sunday, Shafali Verma-led India defeated England in the final of the inaugural under-19 women’s T20 World Cup, in Potchefstroom.

Following the World Cup triumph, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah had announced that the team will get INR 5 crore from the board, and that Sachin Tendulkar will come to felicitate them in Ahmedabad in front of a buzzing crowd.

That is that happened on Sunday as the Ahmedabad crowd broke in the chants of “Sachin Sachin” soon after the legendary Indian batsman was shown on the giant screen.

Tendulkar, an ICC Hall of Famer, proceeded to give an inspirational speech to the Women’s U-19 team that recorded history in the inaugural T20 WC. BCCI president Roger Binny and secretary Jay Shah were among other BCCI officials on the stage. Tendulkar and other officials then presented the junior team with the cheque of INR 5 crore.

The BCCI uploaded the video of Sachin Tendulkar’s speech on their social media handles:

In the final against England u-19, Titas Sadhu was rewarded with the Player of the Match award for her stunning bowling figures of 6/2 in 4 overs. Sadhu dismissed opener Liberty Heap and number 4 batter and keeper Seren Smale.

India bowled England out for 68 and chased it down with 7 wickets in hand. India’s Shweta Sehrawat finished at the leading scorer of the tournament with 297 runs at an average of 99.

This is also India’s first ICC trophy victory – counting both men’s and women’s team – since Prithvi Shaw’s team won the 2018 under-19 World Cup.
