The inaugural edition of the Women’s Premier League is all set to take place in India next month. In the first season of the much-awaited league, a total of 5 teams will participate. The five franchises were finalized last week and the franchised are based in Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Ahmedabad, and Lucknow, three are owned by the IPL team owners, while the remaining two are owned by the Adani Group (Ahmedabad) and Capri Global Holdings Private Limited (Lucknow).

Meanwhile, in a piece of shocking news, veteran Indian women cricketer Jhulan Goswami won’t participate in the Women’s Premier League (WPL). Yes, you read that right. Jhulan Goswami won’t be playing in the league but she has been offered a coaching role.

Recently, former Indian cricketer Sourav Ganguly, who has joined the Delhi Capitals as director of cricket earlier this year, revealed that Jhulan was offered a coaching role for the Delhi-based franchise. Delhi Capitals who are on the hunt for coaches have sought Goswami as the bowling coach of the team. However, Jhulan has denied receiving any such offers from Delhi Capitals.

“No, I don’t know about any such offers. I haven’t heard of it and I have not received any such offers,” said Jhulan Goswami exclusively to InsideSport.

Later, according to a report in ESPNCricinfo, Ganguly confirmed that Jhulan has joined the Mumbai franchise as their bowling coach. “Jhulan has gone to Mumbai,” Ganguly, who joined the Delhi Capitals as director of cricket earlier this year, told the media at Eden Gardens on Tuesday.

The Mumbai-based franchise is yet to release an official statement about the appointment of Jhulan as part of the team’s backroom staff. The Mumbai team is owned by the Mumbai Indians group, which is the most successful franchise in the history of the Indian Premier League and has won five titles in the last 15 editions.
