Yashasvi Jaiswal has gotten off to a rollicking start in his Test career as he’s recorded a fifty on his debut Test innings against the West Indies in the first Test in Dominica.

He started his knock in the third session on Day 1 in Dominica after West Indies had been bowled out for 150, courtesy of a terrific five-wicket haul from R Ashwin. Yashasvi Jaiswal’s first boundary came off a pacer, slashing over point on the off-side and that commenced a stylish innings from the young left-hander who was unbeaten, along with skipper and opening partner Rohit Sharma, until Lunch on Day 2, extending India’s dominance and tight hold on the match.

After his first authoritative boundary off Joseph, spin was introduced as the pitch assisting the tweakers. But Yashasvi Jaiswal wasn’t going to be swayed by the pitch or the meek opposition. He took on Cornwall with a sweep and then cut both Cornwall and Warrican for stylish fours.

The elegant left-hander then drove the lanky Holder through the offside before bringing out the audacious reverse sweep to Warrican.

On the morning of Day 2, Yashasvi Jaiswal remained tad cautious, giving respect to the West Indies pacers in the first hour where moisture gave the pacers some help. After seeing off the initial overs on Day 2, Jaiswal played a cracking pull to Roach and with that boundary he brought up his maiden Test fifty.

The entire Indian dressing room, including head coach Rahul Dravid, was on their feet and gave young Jaiswal a standing ovation for his composed knock.
