5 Most Deadly Bowling Pairs In Test Cricket

Stuart Broad bid adieu to Test cricket and international cricket with the conclusion – and quite a scintillating conclusion – of the Ashes 2023 Test series at The Oval. He took the last two Australian wickets to help England draw level in the series, avoiding the ignominy of losing a home Ashes series after 22 years.

The 37-year-old bowed out of the game with 604 Test wickets- the 5th highest in Test cricket and the second highest among pacers, only after teammate James Anderson’s column of 690 scalps. He featured in 167 Test matches, again the fifth most in Test cricket, and second among pacers.

Additionally, Broad also snapped up 178 ODI wickets and 65 T20I victims, going out with a total of 847 international wickets.

Stuart Broad and James Anderson formed arguably the greatest Test bowling pair, hunting down opponents in tandem from each end. They were, of course, helped with the home playing conditions in England that assisted the pacers. But that doesn’t take any credit away from them being one of the greatest Test bowling pairs of all-time.

Broad and Anderson featured in 138 Tests together – which in itself is incredible to do for fast bowlers. Together, they snapped a massive haul of 1039 wickets, which is the most ever a duo have taken in Tests bowling together, accounting to 7.53 wickets per match.

Next on the list is the great Australian pair of Shane Warne and Glenn McGrath. Warne and McGrath together helped Australia win many a Ashes and number of Test series together, making Australia one of the all-time greatest, most successful teams.

Shane Warne and Glenn McGrath played in 104 Tests together in their careers and snapped up 1001 wickets between them, making it 9.63 wickets per match, the best wickets per match in this list.

Next is the Sri Lankan duo of spinner Muttiah Muralitharan and left-arm seamer Chaminda Vaas. They played 95 Tests alongside each other, picking up 895 wickets at 9.42 wickets per match.
