Top 5 Cricketers Who Have Taken The Most Number Of Catches In ODIs – Superstar Indian cricketer Virat Kohli had a bittersweet time in the field during Nepal’s innings in their Group A encounter in the Asia Cup 2023 at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Kandy.

Fielding at cover position, Virat Kohli dropped a very easy catch of Nepal opener Aasif Sheikh of Mohammed Siraj’s bowling on the first ball of the second over of Nepal’s innings. However, he took a one-handed stunner, of the same batsman, off the same bowler later in the innings, though Aasif Sheikh had till then scored 58 runs.

With this completed catch of Aasif Sheikh, Virat Kohli moved to number 4 in the tally of most ODI catches by non-wicketkeeper, surpassing New Zealand legend Ross Taylor’s position.

Now at the 4th spot in most catches in ODIs, Virat Kohli has taken 143 catches in ODIs, at fifth is Ross Taylor with 142 catches. Leading the list of Sri Lankan legend Mahela Jayawardene who took 218 catches in his ODI career. Second behind Mahela is Ricky Ponting with 160 ODI catches, followed by Mohammad Azharuddin, who has taken 156 catches in his ODI career. Virat Kohli is just behind Mohammad Azharuddin with 143 catches so far in his ODI career.

Most catches by non-wicketkeeper in ODIs:

Mahela Jayawardene – 218

Ricky Ponting -160

Mohammad Azharuddin – 156

Virat Kohli – 143

Ross Taylor – 142

India have a poor day in field with three dropped catches

India’s catching was shockingly poor at the start of Nepal’s innings. India dropped 3 catches in the first 5 overs:

all three were dropped from players who are generally considered safe and good catches – Shreyas Iyer, Virat Kohli, and Ishan Kishan.

Kohli did make up for that with a superb one-handed catch later in the innings. It didn’t hurt India much as they bowled Nepal out for 230, though they would have liked to clean them up much earlier.

Teams:

Nepal (Playing XI): Kushal Bhurtel, Aasif Sheikh(w), Rohit Paudel(c), Bhim Sharki, Sompal Kami, Gulsan Jha, Dipendra Singh Airee, Kushal Malla, Sandeep Lamichhane, Karan KC, Lalit Rajbanshi

India (Playing XI): Rohit Sharma(c), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Ishan Kishan(w), Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Shardul Thakur, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj
