James Anderson Reveals How He Planned To Dismiss Virat Kohli And Sachin Tendulkar

Legendary England seamer James Anderson is one of the few bowlers who have dismissed both the greats of Indian batting, Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli.

The 41-year-old James Anderson has had some great battles with both Tendulkar and Virat Kohli in the past and he’s gearing up for another tussle next year when England will tour India for a Test series.

In a recent video for Sky Sports, both James Anderson and the recently-retired Stuart Broad appeared together. In a rapid-fire round, the fast bowling pair was asked about how they will plan to dismiss some of the greats they have faced over the past two decades.

When asked about their planned mode of dismissal for Sachin Tendulkar, James Anderson replied “Nipping back, lbw”. For Virat Kohli, the England seamer said: “Try and nick him off. A little wider.”

This was how Anderson got rid of Kohli in the past three India’s tour of England in 2014, 2018, and 2022/23.

James Anderson has dismissed Virat Kohli 7 times in Test cricket and 3 times in ODI cricket. Anderson dismissed Sachin Tendulkar 9 times in Test cricket and thrice in ODIs.

How would James Anderson plan to dismiss Babar Azam?

Broad and James Anderson were also asked about some other batting giants who they have bowled to in Test cricket such as Steve Smith, Jacques Kallis, Kumar Sangakkara, Babar Azam, and Nasser Hussain.

Regarding Babar Azam, Stuart Broad said “Top or off-stump” to which Anderson added “He got bowled a bit in Pakistan, didn’t he? Through the gate, a bit of reverse”

Anderson has got rid of Babar Azam twice, in the 2020 Test series at home.

While the 37-year-old Stuart Broad retired recently after the conclusion of the Ashes, the 41-year-old Anderson is continuing in Test cricket. England’s next series is still a few months away, early next year in India. England under Stokes and McCullum have not lost a single Test series yet. No team has defeated India in a Test series in India since England in 20132/13.
