On Thursday, Omprakash Babarao, commonly known as Bacchu Kadu, led a vociferous protest. This prominent leader of the Prahar Janshakti Party (PJP) targeted none other than Indian cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar. The demonstration took place outside Tendulkar’s Mumbai residence. Bacchu Kadu, an ally of the Maharashtra government, seemed discontented with Tendulkar’s recent endorsement of online gaming.
Arriving in full force, Kadu and his supporters wielded banners and placards. Their slogans disparaged Tendulkar, accusing him of promoting activities detrimental to the youth. Furthermore, they issued a 15-day ultimatum for Tendulkar to withdraw his support for what they termed ‘immoral actions.’
However, the protest didn’t end there. After demonstrating at Tendulkar’s residence, Kadu and a group of his activists were detained by the Bandra Police. Subsequently, other supporters staged a sit-in outside the police station. Kadu stated that Tendulkar’s Bharat Ratna award amplified their reason for the protest. He argued that Tendulkar should put the welfare of the nation above personal gains.
In a vocal assertion, Kadu demanded that Tendulkar return his Bharat Ratna. He condemned the cricket icon for choosing commercial endorsements over moral responsibilities. To strengthen his argument, Kadu had previously sent a letter to Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. In the letter, he insisted that if Tendulkar continued to endorse online gaming, his Bharat Ratna should be revoked.
Earlier, Kadu, a former minister in the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government, had even threatened legal repercussions. He warned that if Tendulkar didn’t cease his promotional activities, he’d be taken to court. Despite all this, Tendulkar’s silence persisted, compelling Kadu and his associates to organize Thursday’s protest.

Finally, after receiving no response from Chief Minister Shinde, Kadu decided it was time for action. On August 31, he and his party workers descended upon Tendulkar’s residence. Their aim was clear: to make Tendulkar reconsider his stance on online gaming. For them, this was not merely about a celebrity endorsement but about the perceived ethical erosion it could cause in the younger generation.
