Gautam Gambhir Praised Virat Kohli On Reaching A “Massive Milestone”

Former Indian cricketer and World Cup hero Gautam Gambhir was all praise for batting superstar Virat Kohli and his batting partner KL Rahul after the duo smashed centuries in the Asia Cup 2023 Super 4 clash vs Pakistan on Monday.

Kohli and KL Rahul started India’s innings on reserve day after a delay in start on Monday. Both the batters dominated the game with amazing hundreds and pulled off an unbeaten 233-run stand for the third wicket to help India score 356 runs for 2 in 50 overs.

Kohli played a stunning unbeaten knock of 122 runs off just 94 balls while Rahul smashed a super 111 runs off 106 balls in his comeback match, striking 9 fours and 3 sixes in the match. Not to forget, both the batters went back unbeaten.

In the process, Kohli also became the fastest to complete 13,000 runs in the format. Virat needed just 90 runs to reach the 13,000 runs in ODIs on the reserve day of a rain-hit game. After smashing his 47th ODI century, Kohli is now only two hundred behind Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 49 centuries. Kohli also became the first player to score ODI centuries in four consecutive innings at a single venue.

After the game, Gambhir praised Kohli’s knock by saying that no words are big enough to describe the Indian batter’s feat. He also hailed Kohli for surpassing 13,000 ODI runs in international cricket. He said:

“Virat Kohli is incomparable. He has scored 13,000 ODI runs. He has done it in quick time. Not many batters have scored 13000 runs in ODIs. You got to praise him for the achievement and the hundred. The more you praise him, the less it is,”

In the same interview, Gambhir also praised KL Rahul and said that not just he, but the entire country and the management are happy to see him back to form. Gambhir highlighted how it is not easy to make a comeback like that after being out of action.

Notably, Rahul had injured his thigh in IPL 2023 and missed out on the remainder of the tournament. He underwent an operation in London too.
