It was a dream comeback for KL Rahul as he hit his 6th ODI century on Monday against Pakistan in Colombo. KL Rahul was involved in a gigantic partnership of 233* runs in 194 balls with Virat Kohli, who raised his 47th ODI century as India amassed a massive total of 356/2.
This was also KL Rahul’s first ODI century against Pakistan.
A comeback that almost didn’t happen for Rahul. He was set to sit on the bench for this game as India had decided to retain Ishan Kishan in the XI. However, Shreyas Iyer suffered back spasms minutes before the toss, and KL Rahul was included in the side at number 4.
He started off a bit cautiously with rain around and India having lost both the openers, Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill, in a space of two overs. But when the game resumed on Monday, KL Rahul was in his element.
He was, in particular, aggressive against the Pakistani spinners – leg-spinner Shadab Khan and part-time off-spinner Iftikhar Ahmed, who was called upon to bowl as Haris Rauf had got injured yesterday and didn’t take the field today.
KL Rahul brought up his half-century in 60 balls and his century in 100 balls. He scored 111* runs off 106 balls with the help of 12 fours and 2 sixes. At the other end, it was a regular day’s work for Virat Kohli, who hit his 4th consecutive century in Colombo and his 3rd against Pakistan in ODIs.
Twitter erupted with plenty of memes as fans had trolled KL Rahul earlier and doubted him, but he replied back with a majestic century.
