Rohit Sharma is all set to lead the Indian cricket team to ODI World Cup 2023, which will kickstart tomorrow with a high-voltage clash between England and New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
It’s been more than a decade since India won an ICC trophy. Rohit was a part of the team when the Indian cricket team won the ICC Champions Trophy in 2013 under MS Dhoni’s leadership. Since 2013, the Indian cricket team has taken part in as many as 9 ICC tournaments but they have failed to get their hands on the prestigious trophy, despite reaching the finals a few times.
With just one day to for ODI World Cup 2023, expectations are again high from Rohit Sharma & Co to break the trophy drought.
Rohit Sharma on India’s chance of winning World Cup 2023

Ahead of the tournament, Indian captain Rohit Sharma was asked whether India have it in them to go all the distance, responding to this the skipper gave a very diplomatic answer. He said:
“I don’t have an answer for it. How can I say that now? All I can hope is that the team is in a good space. Everybody is fit and fine. That’s all I can hope for. I cannot say beyond this. Good space is such an important factor and it’s a very key thing now,”
Rohit has won two Asia Cups, taken India into the semis of the T20 World Cup in 2022, and the finals of WTC this year. When Rohit was asked about his captaincy journey, the 36-year-old said:
“I myself realized what I had to do. Honestly, not many individuals have played a part in my journey,”
He added:
“Whatever I have created today, it’s because of myself, of course, there has been support from my family and friends, everybody. I realised I had to make all this talent etc count. Else, it’s a meaningless word. It’s not like someone has called me and said, ‘Boss, do this!’ And why will anyone do it? I didn’t expect anything from anyone.”
Rohit Got Emotional Ahead Of World Cup 2023
Further, Rohit also talked about how people expect the Indian team to win major ICC trophies and how it changes the entire perspective of the fans when the team fail to win. He said:
“Every year there is an ICC trophy now; if you don’t win it’s an unsuccessful year! People just forget what good work has happened in these 10 months. Rightly, as the Indian cricket team, we are expected to win major trophies. We are one of the top teams in the world. We have to be good at it. It has been disappointing for sure,”
