[IND vs AUS] Rohit Sharma Will Create A Massive Record In The Opening Match Of World Cup 2023

Team India captain and opener Rohit Sharma is in line to create a historic record in international cricket when he takes the field against Australia on October 8 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

India and Australia will kick-start their World Cup 2023 campaign in a high-voltage clash this Sunday. Both the teams had recently participated in a 3-ODI series which India won by 2-1. However, both teams didn’t play to their best XI in any of the games and had decided to give rest to some players.

Now, in Chennai, when both teams will be at their full-strength and with their best available playing XIs, Rohit Sharma could break Chris Gayle’s long-standing record of most sixes in international cricket.

In his illustrious career for the West Indies, Chris Gayle smacked 553 sixes in 551 innings. Rohit has already hit 551 sixes in 471 knocks for India. So with two more hits over the fence, he will equal Gayle’s record and with 3 sixes he will become the leading six-hitter in international cricket.

List of batsmen with most sixes in international cricket

1. Chris Gayle (West Indies) – 553 sixes

2. Rohit Sharma* (India) – 551 sixes

3. Shahid Afridi (Pakistan) – 476 sixes

4. Brendon McCullum (New Zealand) – 398 sixes

5. Martin Guptill (New Zealand) – 383 sixes

6. MS Dhoni (India) – 359 sixes

India have been given a little bit of a concern ahead of their game against Australia as star and in-form opener Shubman Gill has reportedly been down in the past few days with dengue and fever. If Gill misses out on the Australia game, Ishan Kishan is likely to slot in the opening role.

Not worry about the expectations: Rohit Sharma

Meanwhile, Rohit had attested to the pressure of expectations from the fans to end India’s decade-long title drought, and to do a repeat of 2011.

“I know what’s at stake. For us, it’s just about taking everything out now and just focusing on what we want to do as a team. Not worry about the expectations, because that’s always going to be there; not worry about who we’re playing; and not worry about what is happening elsewhere. It’s time now for us to be secluded a little bit, and then focus on what we want to do as a team,” Rohit had said on Wednesday.
