The preparations for the World Cup 2023 are in the final stages of all teams. With the upcoming ICC tournament just two weeks away, India and Australia will meet in a high-voltage ODIs series in the coming days.
The 3-ODI series, though a short one, very crucial to the plans of both sides, is scheduled for September 22, 24 and 27 – the matches will be played at three highly batting-friendly venues: Mohali, Indore, and Rajkot.
Both teams are coming off contrasting results in their last series. While India won the Asia Cup 2023, blowing away Sri Lanka in the final, Australia were stunned by South Africa in the ODI series as South Africa came from 0-2 behind to win the series 3-2.
India have rested Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Kuldeep Yadav, and Hardik Pandya for the first two ODIs.
Further, both have some injury concerns. For India, Axar Patel is recovering from a left quadricep strain that he picked up during an Asia Cup 2023, and won’t play in the first ODI. One or both of Ravichandran Ashwin and Washington Sundar are in line for a return to the XI in Mohali.
Australia have multiple injury concerns. Travis Head’s hand injury is likely to rule him out of the World Cup 2023, while Glenn Maxwell and Mitchell Starc are not fit for the first ODI. Sean Abbott and Nathan Ellis are also learned to have picked up injuries in South Africa. Pat Cummins and Steve Smith are returning from injury layoffs themselves.
