The country woke up to the shocking news of Indian wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant getting involved in a tragic car accident near his hometown of Roorkee, Uttarakhand.

Pant was driving alone to New Delhi when, on National Highway 58, he reportedly “dozed off” and consequently, lost control of his car, crashing it into a divider. Pant’s Mercedes caught fire after thrashing into the divider, but the cricketer had the presence of mind to break the windscreen of the car and escape out.

He was rushed to the Roorkee Civil Hospital before he was shifted to the Max Hospital in Dehradun. It is said that the accident took place in the early hours of Friday (December 30) between Manglaur and Narsan in the Haridwar district.

Rishabh Pant is “stable” but has suffered plenty of injuries.

The doctors are currently treating the injuries Pant is complaining of, and what they can see externally. However, the internal injuries will be known once he is taken for scans.

According to Dr Sushil Nagar, who is in charge of the emergency treatment, Pant has lacerative wounds on his forehead, one right above the left eye; there is a ligament tear in his knee; and abrasions on his back. However, the first X-rays suggest there is no fracture and there are no burns on Pant’s body despite his car catching fire.

Jay Shah promises to give all support from BCCI to Rishabh Pant

The BCCI Secretary Jay Shah took to Twitter to give his prayers for the well-being and speedy recovery of 25-year-old Pant. Shah said that he’s in contact with his family of Pant and also with the doctors. Shah added that the BCCI will give all necessary support possible to the cricketer.

“My thoughts and prayers are with Rishabh Pant as he fights his way back to recovery. I have spoken to his family and the doctors treating him. Rishabh is stable and undergoing scans. We are closely monitoring his progress and will provide him with all the necessary support,” Jay Shah tweeted.

Dr. Ashish Yagnik, of Max Hospital, said that Pant’s condition was stable and he is under observation. “Cricketer Rishabh Pant is under the observation of Orthopedics & plastic surgeons. His condition is stable. His detailed medical bulletin will be released once he’s examined. Thereafter, we’ll take the next steps.”

Pant was recently in action where his 93 helped India win the Test in Mirpur. The southpaw was omitted from the squads for the upcoming ODI and T20I series against Sri Lanka. He was told to report to the NCA for Strength & Conditioning work ahead of the Test series against Australia scheduled to begin on February 9.
