After completing the chase against Afghanistan in Delhi, Virat Kohli acknowledged captain Rohit Sharma for his sensational innings that blew away the opposition.

On a good batting surface and small-sized boundary at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Rohit Sharma took full toll on the Afghanistan bowlers with his blistering knock.

He smashed 131 runs in 84 balls, with the help of 16 fours and 5 sixes, making a mockery of the target of 273 runs, which India chased down in 34 overs as Virat Kohli, the hometown boy, also scored 55* runs and remained unbeaten in the chase.

After the completion of the match, Virat Kohli was shaking hands with everyone. When he approached Rohit, Kohli said “played Rohit” and appreciated the India opener for his magnificent knock.

The ICC uploaded the video of this sweet interaction between Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma:

Sharma was aggressive right from the start of his innings and didn’t spare any bowler who dared to bowl to him in his marauding mood. India chased down the target with 15 overs to spare, shooting up their NRR, and now sit at the second spot in the points table.

Rohit Sharma broke a number of records in his sensational century.

List of records Rohit broke vs Afghanistan:

– Most hundreds in the World Cup.
– Most sixes in International cricket.
– Most sixes by an Indian in the World Cup.
– Most runs in Powerplay for India in an ODI match.
– fastest hundred by an Indian in World Cup history

Rohit reached his half-century in 30 balls and his century in 63 balls. This is now the fastest ODI World Cup century by an Indian batsman, breaking Kapil Dev’s record of 72 balls in the 1983 World Cup.

Sharma now has 7 hundreds in the ODI WC, the most number of centuries of all-time, surpassing Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 6 World Cup centuries. He also now has hit the most number of international sixes, breaking Chris Gayle’s tally of 553 sixes.

The action now moves to Ahmedabad, where India will take on Pakistan. Rohit had hit a century against Pakistan in the 2019 World Cup in England.
