A Journalist Asked Ravi Shastri “Can We Replace MS Dhoni?” And He Gave A Brilliant Reply

Ravi Shastri on MS Dhoni’s replacement: Mahendra Singh Dhoni, is regarded as one of the greatest cricketers to have played the game. He is hailed as the modern-day legend of the game, who took the Indian cricket team to number 1 position under his leadership. Besides being the amazing captain that he is, MS Dhoni was known for his destructive batting and finishing skills, and also his lightening-fast wicket-keeping skills.

Following MS Dhoni’s exit, team India tried several options as keeper-batsman, including the likes of Wriddhiman Saha, Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul and Sanju Samson – all of them donned the keeper’s gloves for India in the past one year. However, now when MS Dhoni is officially retired, the management will have to look for a player who can replace the legend and fill his shoes.

Recently, in an interview, the Indian head coach, Mr. Ravi Shastri was asked about the same. Talking about it, Ravi Shastri said that finding replacement of legends like Dhoni isn’t possible. He further compared him with the likes of Kapil Dev and Sachin Tendulkar and reckoned that it is not easy to fill their boots.

“Those are massive boots to fill. With the track record, he (Dhoni) has, he has gone down in history as one of our greatest cricketers,”

He added:

“Not just as a keeper and a batsman but his record as captain. To find a replacement for him is like once Kapil Dev finished can we get a Kapil Dev? Till today, we haven’t found another Kapil Dev. Can we get another Tendulkar? It’s not easy to get these kind of players but there is enough talent in the country and it is up to the youngsters to grab the opportunity,”

Meanwhile, MS Dhoni played his last game of IPL 2020 on Sunday against Kings XI Punjab. The journey of Chennai Super Kings came to an end on Sunday with a positive note as they finished the league with 3 back-to-back wins.
