A Journalist Shared Why Rohit Sharma Shouldn’t Open For India In T20Is

Rohit Sharma has had a stunning start to his full-time India captaincy stint. Clean sweeps over New Zealand in T20I, followed by ODI and T20I series wins over West Indies, and then another 3-0 emphatic triumph against neighbours Sri Lanka. His next assignment will be first time captaining India in Test matches, in the upcoming 2-Test series against Sri Lanka.

While it has been a glorious start to his captaincy career, his batting dip was recently highlighted by Sushant Mehta, the Founder & CEO at Beast Studios and show Sports Yaari.

Sharma had started the home season with a brilliant 60 against West Indies in the first ODI, before managing scores of 5 and 13 in the next two ODIs.

But, it was his performance in the 6 T20Is that followed that has made fans like Sushant question Rohit’s form. His scores in the last 6 T20Is – 3 each versus West Indies and Sri Lanka – read: 5(9), 1(2), 44(32), 7(15), 19(18), 40(19).

A Journalist Shared Why Rohit Sharma Shouldn’t Open For India In T20Is

With Ishan Kishan and KL Rahul known for their ballistic approach and being in form, Sushant Mehta believes that Rohit Sharma is not the best choice for opening in T20Is for India.

“Said it after the World Cup, saying it again: Rohit Sharma is NOT India’s best option at the opening position in T20s at the moment,” Sushant Mehta tweeted.

Meanwhile, with this 3-0 win over the Lankans, India equalled the record for most consecutive T20I wins (men’s), with 12 victories, a streak that started in the T20 World Cup, equalling Afghanistan and Romania’s streak.

Shreyas Iyer was the Man of the Series for his scores of 57*(28) in the first T20I, 74*(44) in second T20I, and 73*(45) in the third T20I.

Skipper Sharma was extremely pleased with the performances of all the players who grabbed the chances given to them in absence of other players.

“We played very well. Lot of positives came out from the series. Want to understand what kind of bench strength we have. Good to give opportunities to those guys. Important to tell guys not to worry about your positions in the team. Want to fill whatever gaps we have. Keeping that in mind we want to move forward,” Rohit Sharma said.

The first Test between the two sides will be played in Mohali from March 4.
