“What Rahul Has Said Is Absolutely Correct” Aakash Chopra Criticises Ishan Kishan

Ishan Kishan, an electrifying cricketer from India, shows talent and dynamism in the sport. Kishan quickly rose through the ranks with his left-handed batting prowess and agile wicket-keeping skills. He made his mark in the Indian Premier League (IPL) representing Mumbai Indians, displaying his fearless approach to batting. Kishan’s ability to play unconventional shots with remarkable timing has earned him admiration from fans and experts alike. His inclusion in the Indian national team underscored his potential to become a key figure in the future of Indian cricket, promising thrilling performances ahead.

The news surrounding Ishan Kishan’s absence from the test series against South Africa due to mental fatigue, followed by his non-selection across all formats, particularly in tests despite KS Bharat’s underperformance, has sparked controversy. Head Coach Rahul Dravid’s statement regarding Kishan needing to prove his match fitness through domestic cricket participation clashes with Kishan’s decision to skip the Ranji Trophy and opt for IPL 2024 training with Hardik Pandya.

Reports suggesting Kishan’s discontent with Dravid favoring Jitesh Sharma over him in the T20Is against South Africa hint at a potential behind-the-scenes feud. This situation raises questions about team dynamics and selection processes within the Indian cricketing setup.

Aakash Chopra commented on Ishan Kishan’s situation, aligning with Rahul Dravid’s stance. Chopra emphasized that Dravid’s statement about Kishan needing to make himself available and play cricket to be considered for selection was entirely valid. He highlighted the ongoing Ranji Trophy as an opportunity for Kishan to showcase his availability and match fitness through participation in first-class cricket.

Chopra pointed out that Kishan’s lack of communication regarding his availability was concerning. He noted that Kishan hadn’t reached out to anyone to indicate his readiness for selection, suggesting a potential lack of proactive engagement from the player’s side.

Furthermore, Chopra mentioned the importance of timing, suggesting that if Kishan had expressed his availability during a period like June-July when there might not have been domestic cricket, it would have been more understandable. However, with the Ranji Trophy underway, Chopra emphasized the significance of Kishan actively participating in such competitions to bolster his chances of selection for the Indian team.

Aakash Chopra said: “What Rahul has said is absolutely correct. Rahul Dravid has said that he should make available first and secondly, he needs to play some cricket, as he can’t be picked for India if he is not playing any cricket. If it had been the period of June-July, it would have been acceptable.”

He added: “However, the Ranji Trophy is happening at the moment, so if first-class cricket is happening, he needs to play there to show his availability. In fact, he has not even picked up the phone and told anyone that he is available.”
