The upcoming titanic clash between arch-rivals India and Pakistan in T20 WC has caught everyone’s attention and has become one of the most discussed topics among the cricket fraternity. While the cricket lovers from both countries are waiting excitedly for the high-voltage clash, a section of people are against the ‘India vs Pakistan’ clash. On Tuesday, Aakash Chopra slammed AAP for their statements against the much-awaited match.

For the unversed, recently, AAP hit out at the ruling BJP over the upcoming India vs Pakistan clash in the T20 World Cup. Citing the recent spate of attacks in Jammu & Kashmir, the AAP insisted that considering the situation, Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi ‘must agree with the stand of not conducting the match’. Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, AAP MLA Atishi said:

“We see people being attacked in Kashmir. I’m sure that even PM agrees with the stand of not conducting the match (IND v PAK) as when (the BJP was) in opposition he used to question that when state sponsored terrorism is taking place in India why should we play cricket with them?”

Well, the statements didn’t go down well with the cricket lovers, who took to their Twitter to slam the AAP for the same. Among many, former Indian cricketer and commentator Aakash Chopra also took to his Twitter and slammed AAP for their statements against India vs Pakistan WC match.

Reacting to a news piece of Hindustan Times, Aakash Chopra slammed AAP by asking whether India should concede the game or play a fair game on the pitch and win that contest. He wrote:

“It isn’t a bilateral series. It’s a World Cup. What do you prefer? India conceding the game…or playing a fair game on the pitch? And ideally, win that contest. By this logic, Ind shouldn’t be playing vs Afghanistan too. Might as well pull out of the World Cup that we are hosting”

The tweet was welcomed with mixed responses from the fans. While many praised Aakash Chopra for his fitting reply to the Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP, on the other hand, there were many who were against the India vs Pakistan match. Among many, a fan tried to school Aakash Chopra by asking him that if India can pull out of bilateral series, why are they still playing WC matches with Pakistan.

“I think it makes sense. If India pulls out of bilateral series, why are they playing WC matches? Both are mandatory per ICC rules so doesn’t make sense to pick and choose.”

Responding to this, Aakash Chopra explained how the bilateral series is up to the respective boards, whereas the World Cup is a mega-event just like the Olympics, where we can’t choose who we get to compete against. He wrote:

“No. Bilateral series is up to the respective boards. World Cup is a world event. Like Olympics. You don’t choose who you get to compete against at the Olympics. Do you?”
