Former Indian cricketer and commentator Aakash Chopra was left in awe of Rajasthan Royals’ young fast bowler Chetan Sakariya and named him as the bowler who took everyone by surprise in the now-suspended 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League.
Chetan Sakariya, who was picked for Rs 1.20 crores by Rajasthan Royals, repaid the faith by the management by giving an amazing performance with the ball. He took everyone by surprise as he dismissed several big names including KL Rahul and MS Dhoni during the game.
In the 7 games he played for RR, Sakariya picked 7 wickets, however, he was very impressive in the death overs and with the new ball as well.
Recently, former Indian opener Aakash Chopra was impressed with the brilliant performance of the left-arm pacer. On his YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra explained why Sakariya was the surprise of IPL. Calling him the ‘rising star of Indian cricket’, Aakash Chopra also picked Sakariya as one of the top six uncapped Indian players who impressed him the most in the recently-suspended IPL 2021. He said:
“He [Sakariya] took all of us by surprise. He is the real deal. How impressive he has been, he can make the ball go out and come in. He has both the back of the hand and a normal slower one. Even if he gets hit, he has the talent of quickly bouncing back and with the same level of confidence. If you talk about temperament and technique, there is a lot to like about him. I think Indian cricket can see a rising star in Chetan Sakariya,”
