Yuvraj Singh On Abhishek Sharma’s Participation In World Cup 2024: SunRisers Hyderabad’s young batter Abhishek Sharma has been making a lot of news lately, all thanks to his outstanding performances in the ongoing 2024 edition of the Indian Premier League. He has impressed one and all with his aggressive batting for SunRisers Hyderabad. He has amassed 88 runs in his eight IPL outings with a strike rate of 218.18 with a highest score of 63 runs.

All thanks to his brilliant performances, there have been calls for his inclusion in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024, with several former cricketers and experts backing the young Indian talent. However, former Indian cricketer and World Cup hero Yuvraj Singh has rejected the idea of Abhishek’s participation in the marquee tournament, despite his strong performances in the IPL 2024.

Yuvraj Singh On Abhishek Sharma’s Inclusion In India’s Squad For T20 World Cup 2024

Yuvraj Singh expressed his belief that Abhishek Sharma may not be fully prepared for the T20 World Cup despite his impressive performances in the IPL, particularly citing the need for Abhishek to convert his good starts into bigger scores. Yuvraj emphasized the importance of experience in the World Cup squad.

However, he acknowledged Abhishek’s potential and suggested that he would be ready for India selection in the future. Yuvraj advised Abhishek to focus on honing his skills over the next six months to prepare for a potential Team India call-up after the World Cup.

“Abhishek is almost there but I don’t think he is ready for the World Cup right now,” Yuvraj said on Cricbuzz.

“For the World Cup, we have to take an experienced side. Obviously some guys have played for India. After the World Cup, he should be prepared to play for India. That is what he should focus on. Coming six months will be very important for Abhishek,” he added.

Abhishek Sharma has made a mark for himself in the IPL since his debut in 2018. In 55 matches, he has scored a total of 1180 runs with an aggressive batting style reflected in his impressive strike rate of 150. During the 2024 season, playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), Abhishek continued to excel. In just 8 matches, he scored 288 runs at a remarkable strike rate of 218 and an average of 36 in the 17th edition of the tournament. These statistics highlight Abhishek’s consistent performance and ability to score quickly in T20 cricket.
