Allan Border Sledged Glenn McGrath And Left Everyone In Splits: India and Australia are currently involved in the first pink-ball game of the four-match Border Gavaskar Trophy at Adelaide Oval. It turned out to be a great day for Cameron Green as he earned his debut Test cap from the Australian pacer Pat Cummins after his amazing performances in the domestic circuit and a splendid show in the warm-up games against India A.
Ahead of the game, legendary Australian cricketer Allan Border hilariously trolled the veteran Australian pacer, Glenn McGrath, while interacting with popular cricket analyst Harsha Bhogle and former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar.
Allan Border was all praises for the debutant Green as he claimed that Green has a lot of potentials to excel. He gave one of the biggest compliments to the youngster by comparing him to Ricky Ponting.
Border believes that Cameron Green bats like Ricky Ponting and can do wonders for the team. Furthermore, Allan sledged McGrath in a typically Australian way for the bowling speed. For the unversed, McGrath used to bowl to medium pace and claimed Green is probably 10kmph quicker than him. He said:
“He’s an exciting young talent. What I like about him is that he as backed his potential with performance. He’s been scoring lots of runs in Sheffield Shield,”
He added:
“Lot of people have said that he’s the best they’ve seen since Ricky Ponting. You went to the academy with Ponting, so you know what a quality youngster he was and turned out to be one of the greats of the game.
“So if Green is anywhere near that then we have found a really good cricketer then you throw in the fact he’s around 6 foot 6 and bowls a heavy ball. He’s probably around 10 ks quicker than you pidgy! (McGrath’s nickname), bowls around 140. So he’s a real deal, don’t worry about that,”
McGrath took the whole matter sportingly and the statement of Border left Harsha Bhogle and Sanjay Manjrekar in splits. “That is a proper sledge.” Harsha claimed.
