Chennai Super Kings batsman Ambati Rayudu is going through a slump in the ongoing IPL 2023, but he’s got the backing from the CSK management.
The right-handed batsman Rayudu has scored only 83 runs in 8 matches this season so far at an average of 16 and strike rate of 136. He managed a highest score of 27* at the start of the season, but in the last 4 innings, Rayudu has been dismissed for 3 single-digit scores while another score was of 14.
Amid this lean run for Rayudu, legendary India batsman, former captain, and now commentator Sunil Gavaskar went on a criticism spree toward the batsman who is used as an Impact Player by CSK. Rayudu hasn’t fielded this tournament and has been switched as Impact Player with pacer Tushar Deshpande by CSK.
Ambati got out for a second-ball duck in a recent game against Rajasthan Royals when Sunil Gavaskar, on air, lamented the usage of a batsman as Impact Player, saying that the batter isn’t in the rhythm of batting when they don’t field or bowl.
Sunil Gavaskar’s criticism of Impact Player Ambati Rayudu:
“You got to field. You can’t just come out to bat and start hitting the ball. You can’t do that. We have seen that with Prithvi Shaw. He has just been coming out to bat without success. No fielding, no scoring. Rayudu is out for a second-ball duck,” Gavaskar said on commentary when Rayudu got out.
Ambati Rayudu seems to have responded to his critics with a cryptic tweet on the day after his failure vs RR in Jaipur.
Rayudu’s response:
The 37-year-old CSK batsman tweeted: “In life and sport ups and downs are a constant part. We need to be positive and keeping working hard and things will turn around.. results are not always a measure of our effort. So always keeping smiling and enjoy the process..”

CSK lost to RR by 32 runs in Jaipur. With this loss – their 3rd in 8 matches – and the size of it, CSK moves from the number 1 spot in the points table to the number 3, and Rajasthan Royals take the numero uno spot in the points table, followed by Gujarat Titans in the second position. All three teams have 10 points each and RR has the best Net Run Rate of the three teams.
