Amit Mishra Slammed IAS Officer For His ‘Distasteful’ Joke On India’s Thomas Cup Win: On Sunday, May 15, India scripted history in Bangkok as the Indian men’s badminton team by winning the Thomas Cup for the first time in history. In fact, this was India’s first-ever medal in the 73-year-old history of this tournament.

The victory of the Indian men’s badminton team is of such an unprecedented scale that it is being compared to the 1983 World Cup triumph in cricket. Needless to say, the likes of Lakshya Sen, Kidambi Srikanth, and HS Prannoy have led India to eternal glory and have made the whole country proud of them.

While the historical win has led to celebration all across the nation, with people from several corners taking to social media to celebrate the win, on the other hand, an attempted joke by an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) Officer on Twitter has gone viral on the internet for all the wrong reasons.

Well, in his Tweet, the IAS officer Somesh Upadhyay credited Indian men’s badminton win to mosquito racquets. Yes, you read that right. Sharing a picture of the mosquito racquet, IAS officer wrote:

“Indonesian are surprised how Indians got better at badminton than them.”

The post went viral on social media, inviting criticism from all corners. Fans on social media condemned the post in unison. Former Indian cricketer Amit Mishra also joined the bandwagon as he took notice of the post and called it an insult to the Indian cricket team and labelled it as distasteful. He wrote:

“This is not only distasteful but also insulting the achievement of our badminton heroes,”
