India’s star opening batter KL Rahul has once again found himself at the receiving end of criticism after he was dismissed for 20 in the last moments of the opening day of the first Test between India and Australia at VCA Stadium in Nagpur. After bowling out the Australian cricket team for a mere 177 runs, KL Rahul walked out to open the innings for the Indian side along with the captain Rohit Sharma.
Both the cricketers started the innings well and put on 76 for the first wicket. However, in this partnership, most of the work was done by skipper Rohit Sharma, who finished the day unbeaten on 56 off 69 balls. So far, he has smashed 9 fours and 1 six in his knock.
KL Rahul is the only batter to be dismissed from the Indian camp as he was caught and bowled by debutant Todd Murphy for 20 off 71 deliveries. The dismissal came just one over before stumps after Rohit and he tried to give India a good start. Indian captain Rohit Sharma was visibly upset as soon as Murphy caught the ball and dismissed Rahul to foil India’s perfect start.
Notably, ahead of the game, a huge debate over the selection battle between Shubman Gill and Rahul, with several experts and cricketers backing the young Punjab batter, who is currently in red-hot form. Gill recently slammed centuries in all three formats, which also include an ODI double hundred.
