The NRMA Insurance Test series currently sees the hosts leading 1-0 after a commanding 360-run victory in the 1st Test at Perth. David Warner played a crucial role at the Optus Stadium, scoring a spectacular century that laid the foundation for Australia’s impressive first-inning total of 487.

David Warner initially struggled in Test cricket after his debut in 2011, scoring only 15 runs in both innings. However, he bounced back with a brilliant century in Hobart, earning him the man of the match despite Australia’s loss. Recognizing his potential, Australia saw Warner as a new talent to carry on the legacy of great openers like Hayden and Langer.

His second Test century, a rapid 180 against India in Perth, contributed to Australia’s victory by an inning and 37 runs. Despite accumulating 24 centuries and 36 half-centuries, Warner fell short of becoming the greatest-ever Test opener for Australia, as some expected.

In March 2018, Warner faced a one-year ban for the Sandpaper Gate scandal against South Africa, missing cricket, including the IPL. After the ban, it took him six Test matches to score a century—153 in the 1st Test against Pakistan and a career-best 335 not out in Adelaide.

In his final Test at the MCG, Warner made 38 in the first innings, hinting at a potential century in the second innings. However, he played onto his stumps, getting dismissed by Mir Hamza. Despite the setback, the crowd gave him a standing ovation, and Warner graciously acknowledged the fans.

Warner, with 912 Test runs at the MCG and making his T20I debut there, will retire from Test cricket after the 3rd Test against Pakistan at the Sydney Cricket Ground on January 3.
