In a space of less than 24 hours, commentator Ricky Ponting has twice accurately predicted a dismissal in the Australia vs West Indies Test match at the Gabba in Brisbane.
In the final over of Day 1 at the Gabba, Ricky Ponting hinted at a possible fall of wicket and Josh Hazlewood instantly struck with Alzarri Joseph’s dismissal. In the second session of Day 2, Ponting suggested how West Indies should get Alex Carey out, and it happened immediately.
Despite Alex Carey being well-set, having scored 65 runs with the help of 9 fours and a six, playing attacking cricket, his dismissal came against the run of play, but only was foreseen by Ricky Ponting, who suggested the West Indies pacers try to get Carey into playing a big shot off a length delivery.
Ricky Ponting said, “It looks like (Carey’s) eyes are spinning a bit to me. He’s in overdrive at the moment, wants to hit every ball.
“I agree with you Bish, just go a bit more defensive, make him play a big shot from a good length ball.”
Carey’s dismissal came to reality exactly how Ponting envisaged. Shamar Joseph bowled a back-of-length delivery which Carey pulled straight to the deep square leg fielder.

Talking about the Gabba Test, West Indies are giving Australia a run for their money in the Day-Night Test at the Gabba. The West Indies batters fought admirably to put 311 on the board. The bowlers came out all guns blazing and had the hosts in trouble at 54/5/. However, Carey counter-attacked with 65 and Khawaja scored 75 to keep Australia in the game.
