Veteran Pakistan cricketer Shoaib Malik has come under the suspicion of match-fixing and/or spot-fixing following him bowling 3 no-balls in an over during a game in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), and this has consequently led to the termination of his contract by this BPL team, Fortune Barishal.
There was a big furor sparked on social media after the news spread that Shoaib Malik, an off-spinner with over two decades of experience, bowled three no-balls in an over during the game between Fortune Barishal and Khulna Tigers in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League in Mirpur. He gave away 18 runs in the only over he bowled in that game. Malik didn’t bowl in the next game.
A spinner bowling three no-balls in a single over raised eyebrows of the fans and many believe Malik is guilty of match-fixing and/or spot-fixing in this case.
Interestingly, after his previous match, on 23rd January, Shoaib Malik left Bangladesh for Dubai, the franchise saying that he had opted out from the remainder of the tournament for personal reasons. Pakistan’s Ahmed Shehzad was drafted in for the rest of the tournament.
