The Pat Cummins-led Australia, chasing a moderate target of 216, initially looked solid at 113/2 but faced a collapse to 187/8 by the dinner break, largely attributed to Joseph’s destructive bowling. His spell saw the consecutive dismissals of Cameron Green and Travis Head, with the latter recording his second first-ball duck in the match.
Joseph consistently bowled at speeds reaching around 150 km/h, securing seven crucial wickets, including the final dismissal of Josh Hazlewood. This decisive wicket sealed West Indies’ historic win by a mere eight runs, marking their first Test victory on Australian soil in 27 years. The series ended in a 1-1 draw, concluding an unforgettable debut for Joseph.
Meanwhile, social media has been buzzing with praise for the young sensation for his spectacular performance against Australia. Among many, legendary Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar also took to his social media and hailed the West Indies pacer for his incredible performance. He wrote:
“Shamar Joseph’s remarkable spell to claim 7 wickets highlights the sheer grit and drama of Test cricket. This is the format that truly challenges and showcases a player’s mettle. A key architect in scripting a historic victory for the West Indies in Australia after 27 years,”

In his post-match comments after being awarded the Player of the Match, the pacer emphasized the importance of belief in the sacrifices he had made and reflected on his past achievements. He said:
“I was crying but those were tears of joy, knowing that I’m doing this for my team, those were just tears of joy and happiness. It is just about believing, made a lot of sacrifice to get here, remembering what you did back then and it is just to continue from what happened in the past, so I just stick to my basics and take advice from the seniors and that worked for me well,”
