Australian all-rounder Mitch Marsh has returned to his home in Perth because of some personal reasons and will be out of the World Cup indefinitely.

Mitch Marsh Has Returned To Home

Marsh, who flew out of India on Wednesday, will miss Saturday evening’s blockbuster match against England in Ahmedabad. Cricket Australia revealed that the timeline and proper details of his return have not been confirmed. It is also not clear if a replacement will be called up to the squad.

The long statement released by Cricket Australia read:

“Australia have been hit by the loss of another key allrounder after announcing Mitch Marsh flew home on Wednesday for personal reasons and will be out of the World Cup indefinitely.

After Glenn Maxwell was ruled out of Saturday’s clash with England due to a concussion suffered from falling off the back of a golf cart, the Aussies are now scrambling having also lost Marsh to unforeseen circumstances.

It was unclear how long the 32-year-old would be unavailable for and whether a replacement squad player would be required. “A timeline on his return to the squad is to be confirmed,”

Meanwhile, Marsh’s absence will leave the Australian cricket team with 13 players to choose from for the upcoming game at Narendra Modi Stadium.

Marsh can be replaced by Cameron Green

Marsh, who amassed 225 runs at 37.50 during the World Cup campaign, might be replaced in the ODI starting XI by fellow West Australian Cameron Green. Steve Smith is also expected to return to his preferred position at No. 3.

Earlier, Glenn Maxwell was ruled out of the England clash due to concussion protocols, having fallen off a moving golf cart on Monday.

The loss of Marsh and Maxwell is a big blow to the Australian team that has recently found its groove in the tournament, having won four consecutive wins following back-to-back defeats to begin their tournament.
