Axar Patel breaks into top 10 ICC ODI rankings for the first time

India’s young left-arm orthodox spinner Axar Patel has broken into the top 10 of the ICC ODI Rankings for the first time in his career after rising five places to ninth. Amit Mishra, who took 14 wickets in the recently concluded ODI series against New Zealand, wrist has risen 25 places to enter the top 20 for the first time to share 12th position with South Africa’s Dale Steyn.

Axar Patel is now India’s highest ranked ODI bowler as Ravichandran Ashwin, who was rested for the series, has dropped down three places to 16th position.

While the series belonged to Amit Mishra who gave a brilliant performance in the final by picking 5 wickets and also bagged the man of the series award for being the highest wicket taker in the series, Axar Patel impressed his captain MS Dhoni, with both bat and ball. Dhoni was all praise for Axar after the fifth match of the series. Dhoni said that Axar and Kedar were the biggest positives for India from the series.

Axar not only bowled economical spells for India in the middle overs but also chipped in with some crucial performances with the bat down the order.
