Indian captain MS Dhoni became only the 15th batsman in cricket history of score 100 international fifties. He reached this milestone in the first ODI of the ongoing series between India and Australia, at Chepauk Stadium in Chennai.

This was MS Dhoni’s 66th ODI fifty, but he has 33 fifties in Test cricket and 1 in T20Is. Combining his fifties in all three formats of the game, he became only the fourth Indian batsman to reach 100 international half-centuries. The other three Indian batsmen are Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid and Sourav Ganguly.

India’s Sachin Tendulkar is at the top of the list with 164 international fifties to his credit. He also has 100 international hundreds to his name.

Second in this list is former Sri Lankan captain Kumar Sangakkara. Sangakkara is widely respected as one of the best batsmen in cricket history. In his illustrious international career, the Sri Lankan legend scored 153 international fifties.

At number 3, 4 and 5 are South African legend Jack Kallis, former Australia captain Ricky Ponting and legendary Indian batsman Rahul Dravid.

If we look at batting averages of all the fifteen batsmen who have scored 100 international fifties, South Africa’s Jack Kallis is at the top of the table with an overall average of 49.1. He is just ahead of India’s Sachin Tendulkar who scored his runs at an average of 48.52.

Here is the list of 15 batsmen who have scored 100 (or more) fifties in international cricket:

Only two out of these 15, MS Dhoni and AB de Villiers, are cricketers are playing currently. Both of these cricketers are modern day legends and they have massive fan following, not just in their respective countries but across the world.

Many believe that MS Dhoni will play limited overs cricket for at least 2 more years. And, in these 2 years, he will score many more half centuries and climb further up in this elite list.
