BCCI Finally Opened Up About Hosting The T20 World Cup 2021

India is currently battling with the second wave of Coronavirus pandemic. Recently, the COVID-19 pandemic crisis forced the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to indefinitely suspend the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League mid-way. The decision came after several players tested positive for COVID-19, despite being within the bio-bubble.

Despite the rise in the number of COVID-19 cases in the country, the BCCI is very keen to host the much-awaited T20 World Cup. As per the TOI, the BCCI is very keen on hosting the T20 World Cup, which is scheduled for later this year. The BCCI also kept UAE as an alternative option if the situation still remains grim.

A source close to the BCCI said:

“Right now, India is the host venue for the World Cup. That’s how the Board is seeing it. If things go awry again, then a call will be taken only after the month of June. And yes, UAE is the second option,”

The report in TOI also added that UK has emerged as a top venue to host the remainder of the IPL 2021. The BCCI has also kept UAE and Sri Lanka as alternatives to host IPL 2021. The report also claimed that the BCCI and England board will have to tweak the duration of the upcoming series. The source added:

“Only if costs are escalating to a point (in England) where it starts affecting stakeholders, the BCCI will consider the UAE as the second option for the IPL. On that front, we aren’t even discounting the idea of hosting the IPL in Sri Lanka,” the source added, calling the island country ‘a friendly cricketing nation’.
