Rumors were circulating about the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) considering the possibility of removing Indian wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan from the central contract list due to his absence from Ranji Trophy matches.

However, a senior BCCI official has dismissed those rumors, stating that the board members have not yet discussed central contracts.

“No discussions have taken place as of now regarding central contracts”, a senior BCCI official was quoted as saying to PTI.

Notably, citing mental fatigue, Ishan Kishan decided to take a break from cricket after the T20I series against Australia. Since then, he has not made himself available for selection, leaving the team management and board members uncertain about his potential comeback.

Despite head coach Rahul Dravid’s clear statement that Ishan Kishan would only be considered for selection if he resumes playing competitive cricket, the BCCI and Indian team management were left clueless about Kishan’s availability. Kishan further skipped Jharkhand’s Ranji Trophy matches, despite expectations that he would participate to prove his readiness for a return to the national team.

However, Ishan is now all set for a return. According to Dainik Bhaskar, Kishan took a break from cricket to spend time with his family, as he had been with the team for an extended period.

Currently, Ishan Kishan is practicing with the Pandya brothers in Vadodara. A recent video of his practice session was shared on social media.

India, already missing key players like Virat Kohli and Mohammed Shami, is relying on KS Bharat as the wicketkeeper in the series against England. If Ishan Kishan had been with the squad, he would have likely been the first-choice keeper.
