India’s sensational bowler Jasprit Bumrah has been out of action for quite some time now. Ahead of the major tournaments like the World Test Championship Final and ODI World Cup 2023, there have been lots of questions regarding his availability in these contests.
Amidst all the questions and criticism, the BCCI has given a major update on Jasprit Bumrah’s return to the Indian squad.
When will Jasprit Bumrah return to action
Bumrah underwent surgery in New Zealand last month after recurring back issues and ever since then, he has been away from the game since September 2022. Jasprit is now racing against the time to get fit before the upcoming marquee tournaments.
As per a BCCI source, the Indian cricket board is confident that the pacer will be fit in time for the World Cup 2023. The BCCI is all set to host the 50-over tournament beginning on October 5.
So far, in his ODI career, Jasprit has played 73 matches and has taken 121 wickets. He has an impressive economy rate of 4.63 and has registered a BBI of 6/19.
BCCI’s official statement read: “Mr Jasprit Bumrah underwent surgery in New Zealand on his lower back, which was successful and he remains pain-free. The fast bowler was advised by the specialist to start his rehab six weeks after the surgery and accordingly, Mr Bumrah has commenced his rehab management at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru from Friday.”

No active Indian players in Saudi Arabia league
The BCCI source also made it clear that the board will continue with its policy of not allowing any active Indian players to take part in various other T20 leagues around the world including the proposed T20 League to be played in Saudi Arabia.
The BCCI’s rules don’t permit active Indian players to play in any foreign league. In order to play in foreign leagues, a player has to cut to retire from international cricket Indian domestic cricket, and IPL to be eligible to play in foreign leagues.
The active Indian players are only allowed to play first-class and List-A cricket outside India. However, the IPL franchises can have their presence as they have made in other competitions such as SA20 and International League T20.
