The IPL 2024 auction is scheduled for December 19 in Dubai. This will be the first time in history that an IPL auction will take place outside India.
Last weekend, all 10 franchises announced their list of retained and released players ahead of the IPL auction.
Many of the released players were on expected lines. For example, KKR have revamped almost its entire bowling attack by releasing 7 bowlers and bowling all-rounders to boost their purse for IPL 2024 auction. RCB, too, have made eyebrow-raising releases of Harshal Patel and Wanindu Hasaranga, which increased their purse by over 20 crore. Some exclusions, though, such as Harry Brook and Kartik Tyagi by SRH were a bit surprising.
For a change, Punjab Kings have not made too many releases as they often do ahead of almost every IPL auction. Their only major release is Shahrukh Khan. Gujarat Titans, who have traded away skipper Hardik Pandya to Mumbai Indians, released Alzarri Joseph and Yash Dayal.
The Delhi Capitals have made a wholesale of changes in their squad, releasing as many as 11 players, including Phil Salt and Mustafizur Rahman.
Mumbai Indians seem to have regretted their move of buying an injured Jofra Archer for INR 8 crore, who is now released along with Jhye Richardson, who also missed IPL 2023 due to injury. MI also traded away Cameron Green to RCB to make purse for Hardik Pandya. For CSK, only the release of Ben Stokes, who had pulled out of IPL 2024 to manage his workload, was a talking point. CSK also let go of paceers Kyle Jamieson and Sisanda Magala.
