“Bilateral Series Wins Doesn’t Mean Much; Only World Cup Is Remembered”: KL Rahul

KL Rahul has echoed the sentiments of the majority of the fans. Addressing India’s decade-long ICC title drought, the senior India player said that he won’t remember his individual records and bilateral wins when he retires, but he will remember only the World Cups.

KL Rahul was one of India’s stars and impressive performers in the World Cup 2023. He scored 452 runs at an average of 75 and strike rate of 90, slamming one century and two half-centuries. He raised a fifty in the final as well, against Australia in Ahmedabad after India lost their top three. However, fans believe his knock of 66 runs in 107 balls was slow and part of the reason India could post only 240 on the board in the final, which Australia chased down in 43 overs and 6 wickets in hand.

On the back of his World Cup form, Rahul made a comeback in the Test side as a wicket-keeper and a middle-order batsman.

Speaking with Star Sports, Rahul talked about India’s World Cup struggles. He has been a regular part of the white-ball team since 2019, and was part of the team that suffered heart-breaking losses in the last four white-ball ICC events. Rahul says the players have “extra fire” to win an ICC trophy in their next attempt.

Rahul said: “It really doesn’t mean much or 10 years or 15 years later when we retire we will not remember our career for the runs or wickets that we’ve taken or other bilateral series that we won. World Cups are the only thing that we will remember. So, yeah, there’s that extra fire in us to go a couple of steps further the next time.”

The T20 World Cup 2024 is not far away. The T20 WC 2024 will be played in the West Indies and USA in June.

India are the number 1 ranked ICC team in the world in world in all three formats. However, an ICC trophy has evaded from them for 10 years now.
