After watching the unusual bounce in the 2nd Test between India and South Africa at Newlands Cricket Ground, former Australian Chinaman Brad Hogg shared his thoughts on the current pitch rating discussions. He suggested that ratings should be based on the venue’s overall performance over a longer period instead of just one match.
Brad Hogg Reacts To Rohit Slamming ICC For Their Hypocrisy
Brad Hogg took to his X (formerly Twitter) and expressed his thoughts on the matter, highlighting the importance of having different types of surfaces for the growth of the game. He made these comments following the completion of the 2nd Test between India and South Africa, which ended in less than two full days.
In his Tweet, Brad Hogg, who retired after amassing 1031 wickets in international cricket, asserted that if a pitch behaves differently than its usual pattern, it should be criticized and given lower ratings. He underscored the importance of having diverse surfaces, including grassy, red soil, and black soil, to ensure an ample variation in playing conditions. He wrote:
“Pitch ratings should be decided on the venues reputation over a period of time for what it is known for. If it deviates from it’s known nature and characteristics it should receive a lower rating. Cricket needs varied surfaces to cricket different challenges. #INDvSA”

Rohit Sharma Had Slammed ICC For Their Double Standards
The crucial Test at Cape Town concluded in just one and a half days, sparking concerns about the future of Test cricket. With 23 wickets falling on the first day, it became the second-highest record for the most wickets in a single day. Brad Hogg highlighted India’s remarkable bowling in the first innings, dismissing South Africa for 55, but the captivating bounce in India’s innings led to a swift conclusion. The match ended with India chasing down 79 runs on the second day, underscoring the impact of T20 cricket on the traditional format.
Post-match, Indian captain Rohit Sharma addressed the pitch controversy, expressing his perspective on the challenging conditions. Sharma boldly stated, “I don’t mind playing on pitches like this as long as everyone keeps their mouth shut in India & doesn’t complain about Indian pitches. You come here to challenge yourself, and when people come to India, it is challenging as well.”
