Ever since its inception, the Indian Premier League has gone from strength to strength to become one of the most popular T20 leagues in the world. While the tournament has witnessed many iconic and memorable moments in its history, one of the knocks that would always remain special is how Brendon McCullum set the floor on fire for Kolkata Knight Riders with a powerful 158-runs knock in IPL 2008.
Recently, the head coach of Kolkata Knight Riders, Brendon McCullum revealed what Sourav Ganguly told him after his iconic knock of 158 runs off 73 deliveries against Royal Challengers Bangalore. The knock has come in the opening match of the inaugural edition of IPL back in 2008.

Recently, during an interactive session on KKR’s website, Brendon McCullum revealed that it took him years to understand what Sourav Ganguly meant at that time. He said:
“Dada said, ‘Your life is changed forever’, and I didn’t quite know what he meant at the time, but (in hindsight), I 100% agree with him.”

Further, Brendon McCullum added that KKR will try to play a brand of cricket which will be a representative of the people of Bengal in the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League. He said:
“We’re trying to play a style of cricket which is a great representation of the people of Bengal and also Shah Rukh, Jay (Mehta) and all those involved in the franchise. Hopefully, we will be able to be successful, because I think we’ve got the right team for it as well.”
Meanwhile, it was in the year 2014 when Kolkata Knight Riders lifted the IPL trophy. McCullum is very hopeful that the team will lift the trophy once again in IPL 2020. The upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League will kickstart on 19th September in UAE with the opening clash between Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians.
