After winning the 1st Test by 28 runs, England lost the 2nd Test in Vizag by 106 runs. Jasprit Bumrah, named the man of the match, took 9 wickets overall. McCullum stressed the importance of England planning to deal with him.

“Bumrah bowled a fantastic spell of reverse swing. Our guys have so much talent and quality, it’s just a matter of ensuring they feel confident to make decisions and go all in on their strategies. We need to come up with some ways to counter that.”

In the second Test at the ACA-VDCA stadium, Indian batters faced tough challenges from bowlers like Shoaib Bashir, Rehan Ahmed, and Tom Hartley, along with experienced James Anderson. However, 22-year-old Yashasvi Jaiswal stood out with his strong performance. Vice-captain Jasprit Bumrah also contributed with an impressive spell.

In the second Test match, Yashasvi Jaiswal scored his first-ever double hundred in Test cricket, making him the third youngest Indian to do so. Meanwhile, Jasprit Bumrah became the fastest Indian bowler to take 150 Test wickets, achieving this milestone in fewer innings than Javagal Srinath and Kapil Dev.

Bumrah’s impressive bowling performance of 6/45, which included important wickets like Ollie Pope, Joe Root, and Ben Stokes, helped restrict England to 253 runs in response to India’s first innings total of 396.

In the third innings, after early dismissals of Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill stepped up and scored his first Test century. This helped India set a target of 399 runs for England.

England started their chase well, especially with Zak Crawley playing aggressively. However, the Indian bowlers, led by Ashwin, Kuldeep, and Axar, picked up crucial wickets, and Bumrah once again contributed by taking key wickets towards the end. As a result, England fell short, and India won the match.

McCullum emphasized the importance of the English batsmen’s battle against Jasprit Bumrah. He described the first two Tests as highly captivating and anticipated an exciting contest ahead.

“What we have seen is that both teams will give as good as what they get. I’m sure everyone around the world who has supported this series so far has been entertained and enthralled by the contest and 1-1 is probably a fair reflection of where it is at the moment. If the next three Tests are anything like these last two, it’s going to be one hell of a series.
