Chetan Sakariya, who impressed one and all with his pace and commitment on the field during the 1st phase of now suspended IPL 2021, has received his maiden call-up for India for the upcoming series against Sri Lanka.

On Thursday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced India’s squad for the upcoming limited-overs tour of Sri Lanka in July. While Shikhar Dhawan will be leading the team, on the other hand, Chetan Sakariya, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Devdutt Padikkal, Nitish Rana and K Gowtham have been picked to play for India for the first time.

Sakariya played all 7 games for Rajasthan Royals, where he picked 7 wickets at an economy rate of 8.22. He will be eager to leave a mark with his performance in the upcoming limited-overs series against Sri Lanka, especially under the guidance of the tour’s head coach, Rahul Dravid. Though the cricketer is in such a fine state right now as far as his career is concerned, however, his story so far has been nothing sort of being inspirational. In the recent past, Sakariya has gone through a lot in his personal life.

Ahead of the series, in an interview with the Indian Express, Sakariya got emotional and recalled his topsy-turvy ride. He said:

“I wish my father had been here to see this. He wanted me to play for India. I miss him a lot today. God has made me see ups and downs in a span of one year. It has been a very emotional ride so far.”

He added:

“I lost my younger brother and a month later I got a big IPL contract. I lost my father last month, and god has handed me an India call-up. I was in the hospital for seven days when my father was battling for his life. This is an irreplaceable void. This one is for my late father and for my mother, who allowed me to continue with my cricket,”
