One of the most popular and best players for the Indian team since 2013 has undoubtedly been Cheteshwar Pujara. The Saurashtrian has managed to take over the role that Rahul Dravid had played at Number 3 for many years and is ably playing his game to ensure India remain at the top of the rankings.
Domestically too, Pujara has shown fantastic form and is a mainstay of the Saurashtra team that plays the Ranji Trophy. The batsman is a senior in the squad and will be considered one of the main players in the domestic season that will commence soon.
Pujara is a very hardworking cricketer, who gives utmost importance to playing Test cricket. Far away from the world of big hitting and unorthodox strokes, Pujara focuses only on improving his technique and performing for India in Test cricket.
Captain Chet:
A recent announcement from the Saurashtra Cricket Board announced that the captain of the team, Jaydev Shah would not be present for the first Ranji game that will be played in Lahli against the Haryana team from October 6th to October 9th.
The senior selection committee meeting of Saurashtra Cricket Association (SCA) was held today. They selected 15 members for the first game. Pujara has been named as captain and Robin Uthappa will play for Saurashtra this season”, Himanshu Shah, SCA media manager was quoted as saying.
“Jaydev Shah, who has been captaining Saurashtra since over last one decade will miss the opening game due to his marriage, which is on October 5,” he also added in his brief statement.
OUR VIEW: It is a brilliant decision by SCA because Pujara is a very inspirational character who can motivate young cricketers to focus on their technique and have good work ethics. He is an old fashioned cricketer who believes in sweating it out in the nets to improve his flaws and strengthen his strong areas.
