Gujarat Titans seamer Mohit Sharma continued his good form in the IPL 2023, carrying it from the league phase to the Qualifier 1, and returned with figures of 2/31 against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at Chepauk.
Mohit Sharma took two important wickets: first, that of Ruturaj Gaikwad, who had scored 60 runs in an opening stand of 87 runs with Devon Conway, to break the partnership in the 11th over of CSK’s innings; he returned in the death overs to dismiss CSK captain MS Dhoni.
MS Dhoni has been in superb form in the IPL 2023 in the proper finisher’s role, coming out and swinging for the fences and clobbering well. Today, however, after coming in at the end of the 18th over, MS Dhoni managed one run in 2 balls and was dismissed by Mohit Sharma.
It was a slower back of the hand delivery from Mohit on full length. MS Dhoni tried to tap it on the offside but coudln’t get the timing right and lobbed a simple catch to GT captain Hardik Pandya at cover.
While there was deafening noise at the Chepauk when MS Dhoni entered the crease, it was the complete opposite, stun silence when he was dismissed. Before fans stood up and applauded MS Dhoni in what could well be his last game in Chennai.
MS Dhoni and CSK fans abuse Mohit Sharma on Instagram:
As Mohit Sharma dismissed MS Dhoni for the score of only 1 today, a section of the fans of MS Dhoni and CSK went on Mohit’s Instagram account and abused and mocked him in his comments section. This was reminiscent of Virat Kohli and RCB fans abusing Shubman Gill and his sister recently after Gill’s century knocked RCB out of the playoffs.
Here are screenshots of some of the comments under Mohit Sharma’s post:
Meanwhile, CSK has posted a big total of 172 on the board.
