CSK vs GT: Shubman Gill Fined INR 12 Lakhs By IPL For This Mistake After Loss In Chennai

The Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill was given a double whammy on Tuesday night as he was fined INR 12 lakhs by the IPL adding salt to injury to the massive 63-run loss against CSK in Chennai.

Assaults from Rachin Ravindra and Shivam Dube followed a clinical bowling performance from the CSK bowlers, and it led to CSK’s second win this season in two games, propelling them to the top of the points table.

Shubman Gill’s Gujarat Titans had escaped a jailbreak against Mumbai Indians a couple of days ago, but this time went down brutally against Ruturaj Gaikwad’s team. Gill, the GT skipper, managed to score only 8 runs off 5 balls in the chase of 207, and his low score reflected on his team’s underperformance as GT managed 143 runs on a good surface.

After the conclusion of the CSK vs GT match in Chennai, the match referee Vengalil Narayanan Kutty found Shubman Gill guilty of slow-over rate during GT’s bowling innings, and fined the GT captain INR 12 lakhs.

The BCCI said in their statement: “Shubman Gill, the Gujarat Titans captain, has been fined after his team maintained a slow over rate during their TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match against Chennai Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai on March 26. As it was his team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over rate offences, Gill was fined Rs 12 lakhs.”

Speaking after the loss, Gill gave a mature statement, admitting that CSK completely outplayed them, and GT let themselves down with their batting.

Shubman Gill said, “They outplayed us when we were batting, their execution was spot on. We backed ourselves to get a decent score in the powerplay and once we didn’t, we were always playing catch-up. It was unfortunate for us. In T20 you can always talk about 10-15 runs here or there, end of the day it’s about how much they got.

“On this wicket, we were expecting to chase 190-200. I think it’s a great learning for the bowlers. I think it’s better to have this kind of game early on in the tournament rather than in the middle or late. We always expected to chase 190-200, it was a really good wicket. Felt like we let ourselves down while batting.”
