Finally, the name of the leader of the Pride is out! Faf du Plessis, the former South Africa skipper, has been appointed as the new captain of the Royal Challengers Bangalore ahead of the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League.
Last season, Virat Kohli announced his decision to resign from the captaincy job at the end of IPL 2021. South Africa batter Faf du Plessis, who was roped in by the RCB for INR 7 crore in the IPL 2022 Mega-Auction, will be filling the shoes of Virat Kohli as the new captain of the team.
Faf has been one of the most consistent players in the Indian Premier League. He played a substantial role in Chennai Super Kings’ memorable victory in the previous edition of the Indian Premier League, where he emerged out as one of the top scorers. He scored 633 runs in the 2021 season and ended up as the second leading run-scorer in the tournament.
Expressing his delight in being appointed as the captain of RCB, Faf du Plessis said, “The opportunity to be the captain of a franchise like RCB is massive and a role I was glad to accept. The work is just going to begin as we try to build off the success the team has enjoyed in previous years. I would like to thank RCB management and the coaching team for entrusting me with the role and I will do my best to ensure a successful season this time with the desired outcome.”
Meanwhile, Faf du Plessis’ former team Chennai Super Kings’ shared a special message for the stylish cricketer after he was appointed as the captain of the Red and Black team. Replying on RCB’s Instagram live, CSK wrote:
