Deepak Chahar has been receiving praises from all corners because of his sensational knock of an unbeaten 69 runs in the second ODI against Sri Lanka. Walking out to bat at number eight, when the game looked in favor of Sri Lanka, Deepak Chahar played brilliant innings under pressure and brought the Indian cricket team back into the game.

While the entire cricket fraternity is showering praises on the cricketer, his father revealed his biggest regret concerning him.

Deepak Chahar: Rahul sir's belief in my batting pushed me to perform | Cricket News - Times of India

Recently, in an interview with Times of India, Deepak Chahar’s father Lokander Chahar spoke about his biggest regret. He stated that Deepak could have gone for big if he had registered himself as the bowler. He said:

“Humari galti thi (It was our fault). Deepak had filled the form as an all-rounder. The all-rounder category came late in the day. Rahul went as a bowler. Rahul’s name came early in the auction. Deepak came later. By the time Deepak’s name was called, teams had exhausted a lot of the money otherwise Deepak would have got more than Rs 2 crores. We had an idea that Rahul would draw big bids. It was not a surprise or a fluke that he went for so much,”

For the unversed, Deepak had listed himself as an all-rounder and not as a bowler in the Indian Premier League in 2018. The cricketer was brought for INR 80 lakhs, while his younger cousin Rahul Chahar was bought by Mumbai Indians for INR 1.9 crores.

Though the family was thrilled for Rahul Chahar, however, they felt that Deepak could have filled the form as a bowler, he too could have gone for a higher bid in the auction.

Meanwhile, everyone is aware of how Deepak has been grinding himself by sharpening his skills in the batting department. Deepak also scored few handy runs in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, 2018 season. It was MS Dhoni, who noticed his potential and promoted him up the order at number 6 in what turned out to be a thrilling run-chase against Kings XI Punjab.

Furthermore, Deepak’s father feels that he has always worked hard on his batting while playing domestic matches for Rajasthan. He revealed:

“He was batting well for Rajasthan before he got injured after that tournament. But Deepak knows he can’t be a one-dimensional cricketer,”
